All SNR students are assigned a professional academic advisor from their selected degree program who will assist with academic planning and a faculty mentor who will provide guidance and advice on research, internships, careers and graduate school.
Through one-on-one interactions your Adviser and Faculty mentor will get to know you and your career ambitions and will help you tailor your college experience accordingly.

Building Relationships
One of the important things you can do as an MU student is to establish a significant working with your Academic Adviser and your Faculty Mentor who will introduce you to:
- Research opportunities
- Community involvement
- Study abroad options
- How to assess and apply to graduate schools
- Academic planning and course selection
Academic Planning
Creating an academic plan can include a number of variables. Some courses may be offered every other semester or even every other year. Other courses can only be taken in certain sequences. Some degree programs require that students apply for admission to the program and upper-division classes, others require certification or licensing exams. You may need advance planning to include an internship or undergraduate research experience in addition to your coursework.
These are just a few examples of the many mazes of a university education. Without planning and effort, you may miss a valuable opportunity and/or delay graduation unnecessarily. With careful planning and effort, you will receive the most out of your college experience and ease the transition from school to work.
Academic advisors will assist you in defining and reaching your academic and career goals. Once you are assigned an academic advisor, you should log into MU Connect and set up an advising appointment. We encourage you to meet with your academic advisor each semester before registering for classes. After your advising appointment, you will be able to register for classes at your appointed registration date and time ad myZou (myZou.missouri.edu/psp/csprdc/?cmd=login).
You are responsible for planning your curriculum and career path, but advisors can offer input throughout your education.
